At what age does it start? I'm 51 and having a lot of trouble remembering. For example, I can't remember what date it is or my grandkids birthday. My mother had it plus my grandfather.

Most persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia are much older than you, but about half a million Americans have what we call younger-onset Alzheimer’s (under 65).

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that you have Alzheimer’s disease. Today most of us multi-task, work under lots of stress and have busy lives; most of my friends are worried about their memories as am I!

The Alzheimer’s Association has a great resource on its website called the 10 Warning Signs. Check that out at http://www.alz.org/alzheimers_disease_know_the_10_signs.asp

If you remain concerned after checking this resource, please talk to your doctor and have an evaluation. At your age, it is still most likely that you are okay or have a treatable issue.
