  1. Try taking the blame, walking away for a few minutes and then come back and redirect the conversation somewhere else.

  2. Change the subject and ask your loved one to help you with something like folding the laundry.

  3. Love and respect them like you always have—let them hold onto as much dignity as possible.

  4. Sometimes your loved one may just need space. Their moods change so quickly.

  5. Remember: you may have to handle every anger episode differently. What worked once may not work the next time. Try a few different things to find what works best.
