  • “I’m excited about the family reunion tomorrow, Mom,” instead of “The family reunion starts tomorrow, Mom, we need to pick out your dress, do your nails and get your hair done.”

  • “Would you like oatmeal or cream of wheat today for breakfast?”

  • “Mom, I’m sorry I rushed you during your shower. Next time we’ll start earlier.”

  • “I know you hate to go to the eye doctor, but let’s get an ice cream cone afterwards.”

  • “Boy, Dad, I can’t find the matches to any of these socks. You’ve always been good at this. Would you help me sort them, please?”

  • “Dad, I know you’re down today and really missing Mom. I miss her too. Let’s go look at the photo album.”
