  • “Dad, instead of fidgeting with your zipper, do you have to go to the bathroom? If not, can you help me fold clothes?”

  • “Dad, don’t touch Mom while she’s trying to nap. Let’s go into the living room and turn on the TV. What would you like to watch?”

  • “Dad, are you too warm? Is that why you’re taking off your shirt?”

  • “Let’s leave your shirt on since it’s cold,” rather than, “Quit taking off your shirt!”

  • “Dad, she is real pretty, but she is real busy answering the phone. Let’s go sit down and read a magazine while waiting for the doctor.”
