Our grandchildren are 7 and 10 and are having a hard time understanding what their grandmother has and why she is the way she is. Are there any books addressing these issues written for their age group?

What a wonderfully concerned grandparent you are! There are many books for not only the ages your grandchildren are now, but there are also books for young adults. Here are several suggestions, but I urge you to visit the website for the Alzheimer’s Association. There, you can not only find a much more extensive list, but there are videos for the children to watch as well.

  • But Mama, How Come Gandpa Gets To? by Carolie Warren
  • What’s Happening to Grandpa? by Maria Shriver
  • Grandma’s Cobwebs: A Story for Children about Alzheimer’s Disease by Ann Frantti
  • Remember, Grandma? by Laura Langston
  • Alzheimer’s Disease: A Forgotten Life by Elaine Landau (This one might be a little too old but it offers answers to many questions and is more technical than storyline)
